Parc Eglos Primary School is embarking on a new chapter under the leadership of Vicky Sanderson, who brings a wealth of experience and a clear vision for the school's future.
Familiar to the Helston primary school from her role as the previously seconded head, Vicky has been appointed as the new substantive headteacher following the resignation of former head Jayne Banner.
She has her sights set on leading Parc Eglos out of the "Required Improvement" rating it received in the recent OFSTED inspection, focusing on creating a stronger sense of community and ensuring every child feels loved, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
With five areas of the school curriculum needing improvement, Vicky explained how they have already begun making provisions to adjust the communication between the school, parents and carers.
She said: “The school has implemented a new communication system to ensure parents receive all important information directly from the office.
“As well as this, we will be welcoming parents into school for year group workshops. If successful, we will be holding more throughout the year.”
Vicky also mentioned that parents will now receive three reports throughout the year, updating them on their children’s progress. Two shorter reports will be published, along with the yearly report at the end of the summer term.
Recognising the importance of open communication, the school has restructured its staff to better support parent involvement. Jess Morris-Marsham has been seconded as deputy head, and Katie Cotterill has been appointed as assistant head. Each year group now has a designated lead: Roberta Martin for reception and nursery, Sarah Richards for years one and two, Katie Cotterill for years 3 and 4, and Rachael Giddings for years 5 and 6.
"Sometimes parents may have issues they wish to address, but don’t feel comfortable coming straight to the head," Vicky said. "Now, there is an opportunity for parents to speak about any problems or issues with their phased leads, creating a more accessible and responsive environment for all."

With a clear vision for the future, Vicky is eager to lead Parc Eglos into a new era of success
"I'm truly excited to be here," she shared with the Packet. "I have a connection with the school, having worked with Southerly Point Schools for many years when Brett (Dye) was head. I am very lucky to be the new headteacher."
Vicky’s vision is to create a school where every child feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential. "My goal is to make this large school feel as friendly, supportive and responsive as a smaller school,” she explained. "I want parents who drop their children off to school, knowing that their children will be loved and cared for in all aspects of their education.
“We want to know about our children's lives, their hobbies, clubs, and even their pets. We are committed to helping every child reach their highest aspirations and attainment in all aspects of their learning."
Vicky, who was raised in Heamoor, Penzance, now lives in St Agnes with her teenage daughters and husband Neil who is a lecturer at Cornwall College. She is also the proud owner of eight ducks!
