The overnight closure of the A390 Truro to Tresillian road is causing “absolute carnage” according to one driver who was stuck for over an hour.
Posting on Facebook Staffie Morris said that she was stuck for nearly an hour after being diverted down a long single track road with hardly any passing places.
“There were over 60 cars trying to get past each other, with nowhere to go!,” she said. “It's absolute carnage and this is supposed to happen till the end of September! About 20 cars had to reverse down to a junction in the dark to allow people through but more and more cars were joining the end of the queues as the seconds went by!”
She said one girl stood at the junction to tell people to try and stop people coming up, at one point she said they even dialled 999 because of the traffic piling in from either end.
However she was told by the operator that it wasn’t their problem and 999 should only be used in emergencies.
“I really feel this could of been handled better by the authorities and whoever handles road closures! What should of been a 40 min journey took us two hours because of this road diversion!
“People need to know to use a different route or plan their journeys differently!”
However one commentator criticised the drivers for not following the correct diversion and trying to shortcut it for causing the problem.
“If you follow the diversion signs put in place and not Google maps then this wouldn’t happen it people’s own fault for trying to shortcut the diversion.”
Cornwall Council are currently carrying out overnight road closures of the A390 Truro to Tresillian until September 27.
On its website the council said: “Due to resurfacing works there will be overnight weekday closures between Union Hill Truro and Tresillian from 1900 between the 8 and 27 September. “Go-Cornwall services 27E and 50 and First Buses service T3 will operate their normal routes and will be escorted through the closure, which could cause some delays.”
