A bungalow in one of the most sought-after areas of Britain is up for auction with a guide price of just £35,000, but with one deep catch - it has an open mineshaft in the front garden.

The four-bedroom detached home is situated just a mile from St Ives, Cornwall.

But directly in front of the property in the quiet cul-de-sac at Carbis Bay is a large hole - after a mineshaft opened up on its driveway.

An emergency security fence was put up around it to protect residents and neighbours following the incident in November.

Clive Emson auctioneers wrote: "The property comprises well proportioned accommodation, (although is subject to mining activity) which now requires remedial works.

"With this in mind, some may wish to consider replacement of the existing dwelling following demolition, subject to all necessary consents being obtainable."

The property has a driveway to the side leading to a single garage with utility area and a garden area to the front along with the rear.

A copy of the mining documentation will be available in the legal pack which can be downloaded from the Clive Emson website.
