A warning has been issued to drivers to make sure their vehicles are parked safely after a number vehicles rolled into a stone wall at a Cornwall car park this week.
Posting a picture of a large damaged van with its rear wedged against the surrounding wall on its Facebook page, Porthtowan Post warned drivers to be more careful when they park as this one nearly hit a child.
They said the van had actually rolled from the top to the bottom of the Porthtowan Beach car park.
“Second roller of the week,” they said. “This one from the top to the bottom. Please park in gear and if you're walking through the carpark be vigilant. This one almost hit a child.
“If you see one let the council know. The more its reported the more likely they are to make a change.”
Earlier they posted a picture of a black Vauxhall Astra wedged up against the wall saying: “Yesterday's roller...
“It's a good idea to always leave your car in gear when parking on a slope.”
Posting a comment underneath that post Jemima Rowe said: “Much worse one than that yesterday, T4 rolled from the top row just missing a child, hit the wall with such force part of the wall popped the other side, quite frightening thinking of what could of happened.”
There has been a spate of cars rolling down steep hills at Cornish beaches with the police attending two incidents this week alone.
The handbrake of a white Ford KA appeared to have failed while it was parked on the hill leading down to Polzeath beach.
And according to Devon and Cornwall Police’s Roads Policing Team it wasn’t even the first time it had happened today.
The team posted a picture on the social media site X, with a warning to anyone planning to visit Cornwall that they should ensure their car is in good condition to avoid such incidents.
