Motorists and people living and working in Redruth are being advised of upcoming disruptions over the next few months.
Wales and West Utilities will begin work to upgrade gas pipes in the Chapel Street area of Redruth next month.
The work will start on Monday, October 7 and is essential to keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations to come.
It is expected to be completed during December unless there are any engineering difficulties. Once completed, it will move to West End, Blowinghouse Hill, Church Lane and Hoskings Row in January next year.
The following is when and where gas upgrade works will take place in Redruth:
- Rolling road closures on the junctions of Chapel Street, West End, Fore Street and Penryn Street - October 7 to November 11
- Rolling two-way lights on Chapel Street - November 11 to December 20
- Four-way traffic lights in place on Foundry Row, Tolgus Hill, Roaches Row and Rose Hill - November 25 to December 23
Motorists are being advised to allow extra travel time when the works begin.
Wales and West Utilities said they have “worked closely with Cornwall Council to plan the work” and it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place as the works progress.
Abby Smith who is managing this gas pipe upgrade work for Wales and West Utilities said: “We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
“We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.”
She also added that while most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it “plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Redruth”.
“Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner, or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it,” Abby said.
