The farmer who runs Greenspot has said sorry to the people of Falmouth after ‘vile’ thick “evil smelling” smoke covered the town at the weekend.

Neil Pengelly said he’d like to apologise to people about the smoke which was caused, he said, by compost being set on fire without his knowledge.

People living in Eve Parc area nearby complained about a really strong “vile” smell that left them with a sore throat and everything stinking.

People complained they had difficulty breathing in some cases, especially people who suffer from breathing conditions.

The smoke was reported all over Falmouth and Penryn and people have been warned it may take a while for it to be brought under control and put out and to expect more smoke in the meantime.
