Helston gas upgrade work completes Wales & West Utilities has completed its work to upgrade gas pipes in the Water-Ma-Trout area of Helston.

The work, which started at the beginning of July, was essential to ensure the gas is kept flowing safely to heat and power local homes and businesses, keeping people safe and warm for generations to come. The work was completed to plan, and on time.

Wales & West Utilities Abby Smith managed this work and said: “We are pleased to finish this project on time and would like to thank the local community for bearing with us as we carried out the work.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the wider Cornwall area. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work was essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.”

For the work to be carried out safely, Wales & West Utilities liaised with Cornwall Council who agreed that traffic management could be in place throughout the works, which were expected to be completed during October 2024.

This included rolling traffic lights on Water-Ma-Trout, Redruth Road, Trenethick Avenue, and Tremenheer Avenue.
