A shoplifter who stole a £99 coat from Trago Mills Falmouth had a six-cm lock knife on him on a public street when he was later arrested by police.
Harry Greenwood, 26, Trebarvah Road, Constantine pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon and three charges of theft from a shop when he appeared at Truro Magistrates’ Court this week.
The court heard that Greenwood was found in possession of the knife, classed as an offensive weapon, in Greenbank Road, Plymouth on August 27.
Greenwood also pleaded guilty to stealing a Pro-Logic Camouflage Fishing Jacket, to the value of £99, belonging to Trago Mills in Arwenack Street, Falmouth on March 8, 2024.
He also pleaded guilty to stealing two four-packs of lager from the Co-Op in Mongleath Road, Falmouth on July 3 this year and another four cans of premixed Jack Daniels Whiskey & Coca Cola from the same store on August 8.
Magistrates gave Greenwood a 12-month community order lasting until September 30, 2025, with 12 days mental health treatment with We Are With You and ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid work.
He was also ordered to pay Trago Mills £99 in compensation and ordered to pay costs on £85.
He was also convicted of failing to answer to court or police bail as soon as practicable on September 2 having been released on bail in criminal proceedings on August 28, 2024 at Charles Cross Custody Centre.
For this offence he was fined £25.
