Pip's Cornish Pasties has opened its first Falmouth shop more than 20 years after starting the business in Penryn.

Colin Head, nickname Pip hence the name, started making Pip’s Pasties in Penryn back in 2002 with just half a dozen to sell.

Since then, his pasties have been named as some of the best in the county selling thousands to customers across the Duchy every day.

Colin already has Pip’s Café pasty shop in The Old Bakehouse at 57 Lower Market St, Penryn but has now expanded into Falmouth.

The new shop is keeping up the tradition of selling quality pasties being in the former home of the much missed Choak pasty shop in Killigrew Street.

76-year-old Charlie Choak the owner of what was then, Falmouth's oldest pasty making business announced he was retiring in May 2022 and said he was selling the building after more than 60 years in business.

Penny’s Pies moved briefly into the premises after Choak’s closed but has now moved down the street to number 22 to make room for Pips.

Mr Head told the Packet: “I started making pasties in 2002. We made about half a dozen and then we grew from there. Now we make about 2,500 a week here and in Penryn.

“Quite a few people have come in and said hello.”

The shops opening hours are 9am to 3pm, Monday to Saturday.

As well as selling pasties – including gluten free and vegan options – the shop also sells sausage rolls, bacon turnovers, pies and pepper steak slices, plus a range of cakes and sandwiches.

Mr Head has brought staff over from Penryn to the Falmouth shop, including Jackie Hamilton who has been making pasties for Pip’s for 12 years, and Colin’s daughter-in-law Claire.

He said: “We just want to say a big welcome to new customers and old ones.”
