Penryn Rugby Club said it is proud to be hosting a celebration event on Thursday to mark the final club stop on Lexi Chambers's epic world record journey from John O’Groats to Land's End in her standard wheelchair.

Lexi, an army veteran and ex NHS nurse, had her leg amputated below the knee three years ago, due to CRPS (complex regional pain syndrome).

She is now hoping to raise £5,000 to share between the Aaron Lewis Foundation and The Exeter Chiefs Foundation, through her End2End Rugby Relay.

Lexi set off for her challenge on Tuesday, August 27 and has been completing the equivalent of a marathon a day as she pushes herself along her gruelling 1,400km route.

Inspired by the determination of the Red Roses, Lexi is not only using her latest challenge to raise money for the two charities, but also to spotlight women’s rugby, showcasing their resilience and supporting their community.

Lexi has been visiting several rugby clubs along the way, carrying a signed rugby ball from club to club, with the aim of connecting the country to rugby.

Penryn Rugby Club has the honour of being her final stop and said: "We cannot wait to celebrate such a phenomenal achievement with the inspirational Lexi, as well as introduce her to our own determined and resilient group of ladies and girls rugby players."

The event will take place this Thursday, October 10, from 6pm onwards in the Memorial Ground club house.

Lexi said: "Women’s rugby inspires me massively. I think they’re absolutely phenomenal.

"I wanted to help the women’s game, so making my challenge into a relay was a natural step. I wanted the event to be about these amazing people, not just me."

A Penryn spokesperson added: "Penryn Ladies and Girls embody everything Lexi says, but we also think Lexi herself is exceptionally inspirational and hope her incredible journey - in life as well as in the challenge - will encourage our players to over come adversity and strive to exceed their perceived limitations."
