There is light at the end of the tunnel for the refurbishment Basset Community Hub with work expected to start earlier than expected.
Camborne Town Council made the announcement in a post on Facebook this week saying it’s been a long journey, but they were starting to see the light.
Planning permission for The Basset Community Hub at the “White House” close to the centre was submitted on May 13 this year.
The conservation officer requested further detail in mid-September and agreed for the stabilisation works to be approved separately through Listed Building Consent, which means the roofing, repointing, windows and the stripping out of the White House could be started early. The planning for the main works is ongoing.
“We are expecting to have permission to start the stabilisation works by the end of November at the latest,” they said in the post.
“This means that the enclosed scaffolding for the two listed buildings can be erected ahead of schedule which has the added benefit of weatherproofing the buildings in time for winter and allowing The White House plenty of time to dry out before the main works start.”
“The removal of the huts located at the back of The White House has begun, and next will the removal of the trees affected by ash dieback.
They said tender applications are open for the stabilisation works and this should be concluded by mid-October.
There will be another announcement regarding the naming of the Basset Centre towards the end of October.
Camborne Town Council’s flagship Town Deal project will see the sympathetic restoration of two listed buildings, the Basset Centre and the White House, joined together with a stunning glass atrium to house a modern, spacious library, a dedicated youth space, a large multi-use performance and events space, refreshments outlet and social space as well as other community and commercial services.
