Preparations are well underway for a brand-new festival in Newquay.

The Be Newquay Festival will be held across weekends throughout November, bringing together music, creativity, wellness, arts, workshops, theatre, and comedy, all showcasing the Cornish community.

It will be held at various venues in the town centre, including St Michael’s Church and the Killacourt.

Local band Kana will kick off the festivities with performances of their own songs by candlelight.

The Cream of Cornish Weekender, running from November 1 to 3, will feature laid-back comedy nights.

Grit Productions will present an immersive theatre experience under moonlit skies, titled To The Moon and Back, on November 15 and 16.

The performance will follow a series of community workshops aimed at inspiring the stories included in the piece.

On November 2 and 9, belly-board painting sessions will take place, paying homage to Newquay’s surf culture, led by Dick Pearce.

Alma’s Winter Arts Weekend will conclude the festival on November 30 with a line-up of exhibitions, installations, walks, talks, and workshops.

This will include a community flag-making workshop with Amy Brock-Morgan and an arts installation by Leila Galloway in the Fly Cellars.

(Image: Experience Newquay) There will also be a special evening of live music from The New Eves and Daisy Rickman, ending with a day of Monolith Celebrations with Stone Club and Robin Sullivan.

It will also feature a Moogie Wonderland Workshop where visitors can learn to make electronic music on modular synths and create visuals using live programming software.

A range of wellness workshops will focus on mindfulness, meditation, yoga, sauna, and breathwork for those looking to de-stress.

A transformative Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises workshop will also take place on November 9 at A State of Mind Studio.

The BIG Newquay Market will return on November 2, featuring contemporary crafts, artisan goods, local lifestyle inspiration, and food and drink.

For the festival launch weekend, the market will host Seascape: A Live Art Event and Auction, where local artists will create pieces inspired by Newquay’s Atlantic seascapes.

The auction will launch on the day, with profits split between the artists and community groups.

Another mural will be painted during the festival, forming part of the MUQY Street Art Walking Trail, which will launch on the lovenqy.co.uk website.

Street art workshops and activities, including Phil Strugnell’s Artist in Residence at SeaSpace, are also scheduled.

The festival will feature festive activities, such as Trenance Trees and Tales: Lantern Parade, the Christmas Light Switch On, and a willow lantern-making workshop.

Many of the festival events are free.
