A popular lakeside café in Cornwall has announced it is closing after ‘trying so hard to make it work'.

Wild Vibes opened at Argal Reservoir in 2017, and then Stithians Lake in 2020, when “the world was a very different place,” said owners Dan and Jade in a post on Facebook.

“We’ve tried so hard to make it work, especially this year with the new cafe at Argal, but the landscape we’re facing is just totally different to the one we signed up for in 2017 when Wild Vibes was born.

“I’m sure we don’t need to tell you again about the trials of roadworks, bad weather, the cost of living crisis, a pandemic, car parks (and their fines)… there are so many small businesses facing similar challenges.

“But while collaborative businesses come with so many upsides, there inevitably comes a moment when it’s no longer possible for everybody to get what they need from the venture, especially while things feel difficult.”

They said their business partners were ready to move onto something new, which they fully respected.

“We also have to think of our mental and physical health after seven years of working at full pelt against a seemingly endless barrage of challenges.

“We know how much you’re going to miss our incredible team, who have also worked really hard this year to stay positive and carry on doing what they do best, despite how difficult this year has been for all of us.

“All we can say is that we’re sorry, and that we’re so grateful for all the support over the last 7 years. Thank you.”

Back in July staff at The Wild Vibes Café found themselves being abused over the cost of parking at Argal Lake near Penryn even though it was nothing to do with them.

The cafe rents the space from the South West Lakes Trust who run the site.
