A "serpentine, cherry-laurel maze" in Cornwall has been named among the most impressive in the UK.

Glendurgan Garden Maze, which is located close to Falmouth, was featured alongside six others in a new list from The Times.

Discussing the creation of the list, the publication wrote: "While once they were purely decorative, mazes became popular among aristocratic landowners in the 18th century as a way to entertain guests.

"One of the biggest and best mazes in the UK was commissioned by King William III around 1700 at Hampton Court Palace. Guests can still follow its twists and turns today, along with some 500 other head-scratchers across the UK.

"These are seven of our favourites, from maize mazes to hedge-based confections — all of them likely to cause delight, despair and probably tantrums when you can’t find the middle."
