Threemilestone School in Truro has become one of the first in Cornwall to receive an Ofsted inspection report under the new rules.

The school, located on Polstain Road, was assessed on October 1 and 2.

It was one of the first in Cornwall to be inspected under the new Oftsed rules, which came into operation in September, where no overall rating is given but a number of categories are still ranked.

Threemilestone School serves a community of 422 pupils aged between four and 11 years.

Inspectors found that the quality of education at Threemilestone School is rated "Good," with areas such as behaviour and attitudes also receiving a "Good" rating.

Personal development, however, was highlighted as "Outstanding," reflecting the school's commitment to fostering a nurturing environment for all students.

Leadership and management were also rated "Good," indicating effective governance and oversight.

The headteacher, Suzannah Teagle, leads the school, which is part of the Truro & Penwith Academy Trust.

This trust is overseen by the chief executive officer, Jennifer Blunden, and a board of trustees chaired by Anita Firth.

Together, they ensure that the school provides a supportive and engaging educational experience for its pupils.

Inspectors found that "inclusion is central to the school’s vision of ensuring every pupil belongs."

The school creates a calm and orderly setting where pupils are encouraged to thrive.

The report noted that students enjoy coming to school and have a high attendance rate, demonstrating their positive attitudes towards learning.

The curriculum at Threemilestone School is ambitious and reflects high expectations for pupil achievement.

Inspectors highlighted that pupils "rise to these expectations and learn the curriculum well."

The school also offers extensive opportunities for personal development, preparing pupils for life in modern Britain.

This includes learning about different faiths and cultures, as well as engaging in activities that promote democracy, such as pupil leadership elections.

While the overall feedback was largely positive, inspectors did note areas for improvement.

They mentioned that "on some occasions, strategies used by teachers to check what pupils know are not precise enough to identify gaps in pupils’ knowledge."

Addressing these gaps will be crucial to ensure that all pupils can deepen their understanding effectively.

The school is committed to continuous improvement, and staff receive regular training to enhance their teaching skills.

The dedication to supporting all learners, including those with special educational needs, was also commended.

Overall, the inspection report reflects a strong commitment to education and personal development at Threemilestone School, making it a valuable institution in the Truro area.
