A new Slimming World group is launching in Cornwall next month and at the helm is a local resident with her own personal weight loss story.
Fiona Osman has revealed that on Thursday, November 14 she will launch her brand-new Slimming World group at Devoran School.
Fiona’s journey with Slimming World began ten years ago when she joined a group in Falmouth, seeking a positive change in her life.
“I was at a stage where I needed to make changes in my life, and losing weight was one of them”, Fiona said.
The busy mum of four who at the time was working full time and volunteering as a governor at a local primary school felt she had ‘lost her identity’ and wanted to make more time for her own needs.
“I walked into the group and was so glad to have my ‘roomie’ with me (we shared an office at work,” Fiona explained.
“Francis led me to the place where new members are introduced to Slimming World and how the plan works. I felt I had come to the right place.”
After Fiona got settled in, she set her own personal achievement target – something which she described as “revolutionary” in helping her control her weight loss journey.
Once she had become accustomed to the plan, Fiona started making meals for the whole family. She said: “I enjoyed the food optimising programme and would bring the recipe books home, so the kids could help me decide which meals to cook over the next week.
“They really enjoyed marking up Slimming World adapted recipes of family favourites like macaroni and cheese, cowboy hot pot, cottage pie and delicious puddings. They kept saying are you sure you can eat all of this mum, it looks delicious.”
However, during the Covid pandemic, Fiona admitted that her weight had crept back on and had not been attending the group meetings which were held on Zoom during the restrictions.
After a family holiday in the summer of 2022, Fiona was devastated to see that she had put the weight back on.
‘I went on a family holiday in Summer 2022 and when I came home, I got on the scales and was devastated that I had put all the weight back on,” said Fiona. “I knew it was time to get back to Slimming World and messaged my consultant Bev, who was so lovely.
“This time I knew what I wanted, I set my target and fully committed myself to prioritising my weight loss and health.
“I started exercise classes, and as the weeks went on, I increased these as part of the Body Magic plan. ‘I reached my Personal Achievement Target in 12 weeks, and got my Club 10 award having lost 10 per cent of my starting weight, the following week.”
Fiona's commitment to Slimming World didn't stop there. Inspired by the positive impact the programme had on her life, she decided to become a consultant herself. "I love helping others and being a part of their journeys," she said.
Fiona's new Slimming World group will launch at Devoran School on Thursday, November 14 at 7:30pm. For more information, call Fiona on 07303 014291 or visit www.slimmingworld.co.uk
