Six dogs found on Bodmin Moor earlier this month will now be heading to new homes after no owner came forward.

Cornwall Council has revealed that the dogs will be heading to their new loving homes in due course but said that investigations into how the dogs ended up on the moor will continue.

The Packet reported on October 17 that three of the dogs were found near St Neot, while the other three were found near Altarun on Monday, October 14.

It was believed that the dogs were Labrador and Springer-type breeds, and they had the same owner.

The dogs remained in licensed kennels for seven days to allow an owner to come forward.

At the time, Cornwall Councillor Martyn Alvey, portfolio holder with responsibility for public protection said: “I’m saddened to hear that these animals have been found in this way.

“I’d like to remind all dog owners that they are legally required to microchip their pets and ensure their details are kept up to date on the register. All dogs should also be wearing an identification tag.

“While the team are yet to establish the circumstances of how these dogs came to be on the moor, I’d like to remind people that to abandon a pet in circumstances such as these is an offence under the Animal Welfare Act.”

However, no owner came forward and now the six dogs have been rehomed through recognised rehoming organisations.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Council said: “Six dogs found on Bodmin Moor are now headed to loving new homes after no owner came forward.
