Chef Adam Handling MBE said he is “super honoured” after it was announced that one of his Cornish ventures has been added to a prestigious guide.
It has been announced today (Wednesday) that five months after it opened, Adam’s Tartan Fox Pub based between Newquay and Truro has been added to the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland.
The Tartan Fox is Adam’s second venture in Cornwall, joining his restaurant and bar Ugly Butterfly in St Ives. Ugly Butterfly is also featured in the Michelin Guide.
“I’m super honoured that The Tartan Fox has been included in the Michelin Guide, especially having only been open for just under five months,” Adam said. “Even more so, I’m really proud that it’s somewhere in Cornwall.
“It’s the most incredible place, there are so many amazing restaurants and venues in Cornwall, and I’m very proud to be a part of it.”

This latest accolade adds to Adam's impressive list of achievements, which includes being crowned Champion of Champions on the BBC's Great British Menu 2023, winning the 2024 Catey Award for Restaurateur of the Year – Independent, and being named Scottish Chef of the Year, British Culinary Federation’s Chef of the Year, and Chef of the Year in the Food & Travel Awards.
Additionally, Adam was (and still is) the youngest person to be one of the Caterer’s ‘30 under 30 to watch’ in the 2013 Acorn Awards.
Located in a 400-year-old Grade II listed building that sits on 30 acres of land, The Tartan Fox embodies Adam’s approach to zero-waste, modern British food, underpinned by the philosophy of 'Sustainable, local luxury'.
All produce used at the pub is locally sourced from in and around Cornwall, to create the likes of ‘Haggis Scotch egg, our brown sauce’, ‘Crab cocktail, yellow curry’, ‘Hake, beans, chicken butter sauce’, and ‘Chicken schnitzel, girolles, truffle emulsion’.
The menu also features elevated versions of much-loved pub classics, such as ‘Fish & chips, mushy peas, curry & tartare sauce’ and ‘Smashed beef burger, Cornish gouda, truffle mayo, fries.’
