People who have purchased tickets for next weekend’s Masked Ball are being warned about scam emails that have circulated this evening (Sunday).

Masked Ball organisers are warning ticket holders of emails which claim that people with tickets for the event next Saturday must cancel and reorder their tickets.

Organisers have now shared a statement in regard to the emails.

A spokesperson for the Masked Ball said: "We are aware that Halloween Ball ticket holders have received an email from a third party seller conducting fraudulent activity impersonating The Masked Ball / The Halloween Ball.

"Please note that this third party is of no affiliation to The Masked Ball and any / all communication with this third party should be disregarded."

The spokesperson also added that organisers of the popular annual event are also "aware of social media accounts being compromised.

"This is a malicious attack and all statements made in these emails are completely false.

"We can assure you that all orders remain valid unless directly instructed by Eventcube.

"Please use due caution and don’t follow any third party URL or website links.

"Please be assured that we are working as fast as we can to identify the source of this attack.

"We are conducting an investigation and will release more information as soon as we can."

The emails, claiming to be from the Masked Ball, read: “We want to inform you that we are currently experiencing issues with our website system. As a result, all orders have been cancelled.

“We are in the process of redirecting to a new website to improve your experience.

“Rest assured, all affected customers will receive a refund in the next couple of days.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding during this transition.

“If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.”

The email ends with a link, but people are being warned not to click on it.

Another email which has also been sent out to ticket holders reads: “We wanted to inform you that there was an issue processing your payment for the evening ticket you ordered.

“As a result, your order has been cancelled.

“You will receive a refund within the next few days. To secure your tickets, please confirm your order again at your next convenience.”

People who have bought their tickets for the Masked Ball at Flambards in Helston on Saturday, November 9 are now warning others about the scam emails on Facebook.

One person posted: “Anyone else had an email from the masked ball cancelling their ticket order?

“Bought early bird tickets which they have now cancelled & expect me to pay £10 more per ticket.

“I think it’s a scam to get people to buy new tickets. Someone is looking into it to see if the website has been hacked.”

Another shared: “Just had a scam email saying my ticket was cancelled this is fake please don't use the link!

"Hopefully, someone will pick this up soon and send an email out as it looks like this has gone to everyone who has brought a ticket confirmed with another friend who has had the same email.”
