Funds are being raised to publish a book about the last giants in Cornwall.
Godolphin Cross Community Association (GCCA) is seeking support to publish Stephen Polglase's book, The Last Giants of Kernow.
Set in West Cornwall, the book is a love story about the last two giants of Kernow and how mining and man impacted their union.
The book is filled with illustrations from artist and giant maker Amy Webb and is said to be for all ages, with themes of myth, legend, tin mining, and the Cornish landscape.
The author, Stephen Polglase, has previously published a book about a specific area in Cornwall and its history of mining, which he used as a "jumping off point" for this book.
It came about after Mr Polglase was asked to tell a story at a campfire for Year 6 students at Godolphin Cross Primary School in 2020.
He said he decided the story had to centre on two local granite hills, Tregonning and Godolphin.
Then he said he decided to "weave the myths of the giants into an informative story of early tinning and smelting."
Mr Polglase added: "The story went down well on the night around the campfire, so much so that I was asked to retell the tale at the primary school later that year.
"In the meantime, I had fleshed out the story in the written word."
The story inspired the creation of the male giant, Wotholga, as a puppet for the GCCA annual Christmas lantern walk.
Earlier this year, Leedstown School created the female giant, Tregona, with the help of The Lost Giants and funding from ArtsLab.
Rosie Allen, arts and heritage manager at Godolphin Cross Community Association, said: "We are so excited to have the opportunity to publish Stephen Polglase’s first novel.
"It’s been magical to be absorbed into ancient Kernow; a world of mythical creatures, giants and early man, and watch Stephen’s ideas become a reality through Amy Webb’s exquisite illustrations.
"But we really need everyone’s help to make it a reality - by contributing to our crowdfunder you can secure your own piece of Cornish folklore."
The campaign finishes on November 18 and more information can be found at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/the-last-giants-of-kernow.
