The A30 in Cornwall remains closed this afternoon following a serious accident in which a woman died.

The A30 is closed in both directions between the A395 (near Launceston) and the A389 at Bodmin due to the serious collision involving two cars.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services at the scene to save the woman with life threatening injuries, she unfortunately died.

The road is expected to be closed throughout the afternoon for investigations.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said emergency services were first called at 8.25am this morning to a two-car collision on the westbound carriageway at the Plusha junction.

They said the woman was seriously injured in the accident but despite the efforts of the emergency services at the scene to save her, she died. Her family have been told of her death.

Nobody else was injured in the accident, although the road is expected to be closed for the rest of the day. The police are appealing for witnesses.

“Emergency services were called at 8.25am today, 7 November, to the A30 at Plusha junction, following a report of a two-car collision on the westbound carriageway,” the police said in a statement issued to the Packet.

“A woman sustained life-threatening injuries and despite medical treatment, was confirmed deceased at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed.

“There are no other reports of injuries at this time and emergency services remain at the scene to carry out an enquiries.

The road is currently closed and Highways England are on the scene putting closures and diversions in place.

We are aware of local traffic congestion and drivers are asked not to follow satnavs but to follow the diversion signs.
