The manager of a flapjack shop had the surprise of her life when she looked up to see an international film star and Dame standing at her counter waiting to pick up an order.
But that’s exactly what happened to Bex the manager of Flapjackery in Falmouth on Thursday (November 7) when Emma Thompson popped in to pick up 100 flapjacks.
The famous actor is currently in Cornwall filming a new TV series and was picking up the flapjacks for the crew to enjoy.
Bex told the Packet: “A lady ordered and paid for 100 flapjacks the day before. The next day another lady came in to collect it but I was on the phone at the time and wasn’t really paying much attention. Then I looked up and Emma Thompson was standing there by the till.
“She was really lovely; we had a bit of a chat, she said they were filming something in the bay and they’d spent a day out on the water the day before and they were off to Newquay today.
“She loved our ginger flapjacks, and she was really nice and lovely. I was bit starstruck to be honest, I’m a big fan.”
She said Emma told her they were filming a TV series but she couldn’t say what.
A film crew is currently using the Pendennis Leisure site car park on Pendennis Point as a base.
The 100 flapjacks were for the crew to enjoy and were picked up personally by Emma.
“I was boxing them up for her and I said it was quite a large order, and she said they were all for the crew.
“It’s really great for us. We’re only a small business that started in Tavistock. It’s really lovely that they came in and spent some money with us.”
She said the actress was only in the store for five or ten minutes.
Emma picked up the shop’s bestselling flapjack Apple and Blackcurrant as well as the Christmas special - the mince pie crumble flapjack - plus toffee apple crumble, traditional flapjacks, ginger and dark chocolate and clotted cream.
Most of the order was made up of the Christmas special, with Dame Emma telling Bex that her favourite was the ginger flapjack.
“She was really friendly and seemed to love our product - which of course she would because they’re fantastic!” laughed Bex.
For those who don’t know, Dame Emma Thompson DBE is a British actor and screenwriter.
Her work spans over four decades of screen and stage, and her accolades include two Academy Awards, three BAFTA Awards, two Golden Globe Awards and a Primetime Emmy Award.

It has not been officially revealed why she is filming in Cornwall, but she is currently filming Down Cemetery Road an upcoming British television series based on the novel of the same name by Mick Herron, for Apple TV+.
Flapjackery has branches in Falmouth, St Ives, Fowey and Padstow.
