The owners of a beach front bar in Cornwall are desperately seeking a customer who they accidently overcharged by hundreds of pounds for breakfast.

The owners of The Welloe, at Praa Sands, brothers Christian and Oliver Waite, have been trying to track down the customer since November 3 when they were charged £620.70 instead of the £62.70 bill, all to no avail.

The café is blaming an oversensitive touch screen for overcharging the customer by ten times the amount they should have paid for their breakfast.

The bill was paid on the morning of Sunday, November 3 and the café has CCTV footage of the person paying. They are urging anybody who was in the café having breakfast that day to check their accounts.

The café put out an appeal on its Facebook page to try and find the customer in question but nobody has come forward.

They believe the bill may have been paid by credit card hence why the customer hasn’t noticed that such a large amount has gone onto their card.

“We were waiting to see if our Facebook post had found the customer in question, unfortunately at the moment nobody has come forward,” said the cafe.

“We would really appreciate help in hopefully finding the customer who was overcharged, the bill should have been £62.70 unfortunately our sensitive touch screen card payment machine has led to the customer being charged £620.07.

“We believe it may have been paid by credit card therefore the individual may not notice until the end of the month, this is potentially why it has not been noticed already.”

They said they have contacted the company which run their card machines but have been told that there is nothing they can do.

“Obviously mistakes happen, but this certainly was a significant one,” they said.

“We would really like to find the person and return their money ASAP.

“If you were in for breakfast on this day, please double check your bank statements, and contact us immediately on 01736 695737, or via email thewelloe@gmail.com or Facebook Messenger if you know this was you. “We have tried all other avenues of contacting this person, with no luck, and would very much like to rectify this honest mistake. Please, no time wasters - we have the image ID on CCTV of the person involved.”
