A Falmouth beach cafe has had an application to sell hot chocolate with alcohol in and mulled wine considered by town councillors.
At a meeting of Falmouth Town Council’s planning and licensing committee on Monday night (November 11), councillors recommended approval of a bid by Swanpool Beach Café to vary its premises licence application.
The café has applied to extend the dates of its premises licence in relation to when it can serve alcohol.
The current licence allows the café to sell alcohol on the premises between May and September.
Following the granting of six temporary licences to sell alcoholic hot chocolates during December the café wants to vary the licence to allow it to do this on an ongoing basis.
It proposes selling the hot chocolates with added alcohol and potentially mulled wine from November 1 to February 28/29 depending on whether it’s a leap year to be consumed on the premises, i.e. the decking area.
This would be during the opening hours of 8am to 5.30pm seven days a week with a three-drink limit per customer to ensure no nuisance is caused.
The application was discussed and recommended for approval by councillors on Monday night with a final decision made by Cornwall Council.
