A drawing celebrating the bravery of RNLI Penlee has been presented to a museum.

The piece, by Devon artist Nick Langdon, depicts Coxswain Patch Harvey at Penlee Lifeboat Station.

Mr Harvey was involved in the rescue of a yacht off Porthleven, for which he was awarded a silver medal for gallantry.

This act of heroism inspired Mr Langdon to create the drawing, copies of which are available from the RNLI's online store.

In the RNLI's bicentenary year, Mr Langdon decided to donate the original artwork to a local gallery or museum.

He chose Penlee House Museum and Gallery.

(Image: RNLI) Mr Langdon said: "It can be displayed as a lasting and fitting homage to what Patch and his crew accomplished and I decided that Penlee house would be a well-chosen home for it."

RNLI Penlee Coxswain Patch Harvey received a Silver Medal for Gallantry and a Thanks of the Institution inscribed on Vellum for his exemplary display of courage, leadership and determination to save lives, along with his excellent boat-handling skills in extreme weather.

The RNLI volunteer crew received the RNLI’s Silver Medal for Gallantry Certificates.

The crew of the HM Coastguard helicopter based at Newquay were presented with a Silver Medal Service Certificate by the RNLI for their outstanding lifesaving actions during that same rescue.
