A globally recognised footwear brand has opened its newest UK store in a prominent high street location in Cornwall, ready for the Christmas shopping season
The new Skechers store has opened its doors in the former Mountain Warehouse building on St Nicholas Street in Truro.
Founded in 1992 by Robert Greenberg, Skechers offers a wide variety of footwear styles, from athletic and performance to casual and fashion-forward options. The globally popular brand boasts stores and distribution networks in numerous countries
Before opening earlier this month, the premises underwent extensive renovations during the summer months by South West property developer Summerfield Commercial.
Working against a tight deadline, Summerfield Commercial and contractor Build Care Plus ensured a smooth handover to Skechers, allowing the footwear company to begin fitting out the ground floor space for its opening.
The new store which employs 18 people, has already experienced a busy trading period since opening.
Will Grant, Divisional Director at Summerfield Commercial shared his delight at the project’s success: “It is fantastic to see this prominent retail space brought back to life and let to an exciting retailer.
“This has been a real team effort to meet a tight deadline, with close communication between our contractor, contract administrator (JLL), letting agents (Miller Commercial and Avison Young) and lawyers (Clarke Willmott) to ensure completion ahead of the target date.
“Our investment in the property means one of the world’s fastest-growing footwear brands has a first-class building to trade from.”
The positive impact of the new store is already being felt in the city. Alun Jones, Truro Business Improvement District (BID) Manager added: “Truro BID, on behalf of Truro City Centre, is delighted to see this empty premises back open for trading. The team at Skechers have done a great job; the store looks fresh and inviting with a great brand on offer.
“The new store will complement our retail offering within Truro and will certainly attract customer footfall. We wish Skechers every success with their new store.”
Skechers on St Nicholas Street is open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5.30pm. On Sunday, it closes at a slightly earlier time of 4.30pm.
