A serious accident on the A30 at Launceston involving multiple vehicles has closed both carriageways in Devon and Cornwall
The A30 in Devon/Cornwall is closed in both directions between the A388 junctions of Liftondown and Launceston(W), due to a serious collision involving multiple vehicles.
Emergency services including Devon and Cornwall Police are in attendance.
In a statement Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the A30 at Launceston is currently closed in both directions following a serious collision.
It states that officers were called at 7.30am to reports of an incident on the eastbound carriageway.
A spokesperson said: "It's reported that an artic lorry has collided with vehicles causing injuries to two people.
"The road is expected to be closed for some time while emergency services respond to this incident."
Superintendent Si Jenkinson said: “We are receiving a significant number of road related incidents this morning including collisions and fallen trees.
“Our officers are responding to these reports but I would encourage people to consider whether their journey is necessary.
“If you need to travel, please ensure you do so with care. If your journey is not necessary, please consider not travelling at this time.”
Diversion Routes Road users travelling eastbound are advised to follow the below diversion route:
Leave the A30 at Pennygillam, take a minor road to Hurdon Road then the A388 towards Launceston.
Follow the A388 round heading towards Liftondown and travel under the A30.
Continue on New Road/Station Road towards Sprytown.
Turn left at Sprytown and rejoin the A30 at Stowford Road users travelling westbound are advised to follow the below diversion route:
Leave the A30 at Liftondown and follow the road around and turn left on ot the A388 Travel on the A388 towards Launceston
Turn right on to Tavistock Road (A388)
At the double roundabout take the exit signposted Okehampton (A30)/Holsworthy Travel along Hurdon Road and then turn right onto a minor road
At the next roundabout, take the 4th exit and rejoin the A30 westbound HGV's are advised to consider using the A38
