Christmas carols from the Roseland Peninsula will be sung again at Truro Cathedral.

The Federation of Old Cornwall Societies is set to host a special service on December 4, celebrating local Cornish Christmas carols.

Poet, Bert Biscoe, president of Truro Old Cornwall Society, said: "For the past few years we have invited people to come to a non-denominational carol service in Truro Cathedral featuring ‘curls’ of different parts of Cornwall.

"In 2024 we explore the carolling tradition of The Roseland – a big headland of many villages, coves and communities, of fishing and farming and Celtic kings – we’ll hear a rich collection of distinctive Christmas carols with the cathedral’s sonorous beauty to enrich what’s sung and heard – Carols of The Roseland - it’ll be a wonderful occasion."

The service is part of a project to revive traditional Roseland carols.

Ten carols will be performed by choirs from the Roseland and Truro, including Amici Voci, the Roseland Churches Choir, and a new community carol choir.

A children's group will also be singing a newly commissioned carol by Gareth Churcher, head of the Cornwall Music Service Trust.

A community band, St Anthony’s Noyse, led by Emma Campbell, will accompany several of the carols.

Ms Campbell explained: "The Noyse has accompanied the singing of carols at St Mawes and Portscatho for many years and host a popular singalong coffee morning every year just before Christmas.

"It is good to have some new tunes to add to our repertoire.

"We are particularly enjoying 'Arise and Hail' which we hope to get everyone to sing in the Cathedral as well as 'While Shepherds Watched' to Lyngham which has long been a favourite."

A new carol book with all the carols sung on the night will be launched at the service.

The book, published by the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies, features words and music for 40 carols historically sung on the Roseland.
