A YOUNG mother from Cornwall is undertaking a gruelling 24-hour run to raise funds for her children's primary school.
Melissa Nicholas, 34, a member of Hayle Runners, will run one-mile loops around the Lizard village from midday on November 28 to midday on November 29.
Her ambitious goal is to raise £500 for Landewednack School, where her two daughters are pupils and where she formerly worked.
"Landewednack is close to my heart," said Melissa. "It's my girls' school, and we're part of the village community.
“With schools facing increasing budget cuts, I want to help provide opportunities for the children."
However, this is not the first time Melissa has fundraised by running. In 2023, she successfully raised £500 for the same school.
She's also a seasoned marathon runner, having completed the London Marathon for charity three times, and has previously fundraised for the local food bank.
Despite the unpredictable Cornish winter weather, Melissa, who describes herself as a 'lover of challenges,' will have support throughout the night, including friends arriving from the north coast at 4 am to keep her company. She added: "I can't wait to see how many community members come out to support!"
