The owner of a beach café in Cornwall says her heart is “warm with excitement” after her plans to create permanent seating area were recommended for approval.
Emily Davidson, who runs the Castle Beach Café, in Falmouth attended a meeting of the town council’s planning committee last night where her application was considered.
Following a discussion, councillors on the committee voted to recommend approval of her plans to place a modified former shipping container next to the café to provide an indoor seating area on the ground that the proposals would make the seating area more resilient to storm damage.
The shipping container would replace the current seating area which is being increasingly being destroyed by the increasing number of storms each year .
The application currently has 44 comments of support for the application from members of the public on the Cornwall Council planning portal.
Posting on Facebook following the meeting, Emily said: “I attended a meeting with Falmouth Town Council planning team last night… I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but it was a very promising outcome.
“No doubt the 45 comments of public support [It is actually 44, one is not from the public] on the council’s website helped massively.
Thank you so much - my heart is warm with excitement for the next chapter of Castle Beach Café.”
The application has been well supported by the public many of whom are Emily’s customers.
Mrs Anna Callister said the application was a “no brainer” for a “well-loved and carefully thought out business.
“Not only bringing local satisfaction when weather is harsh but enabling the business owner to develop rather than constantly battle the elements.”
While Mrs Lorna Armstrong commented: “Emily works so hard to make the cafe a welcoming space all year round but unfortunately the weather has other ideas!
“So much damage is done with each storm and a proper shipping container would be the perfect solution. It'll provide all year-round shelter and will be long lasting and better for the environment. I fully support this proposal.”
A final decision on the application will be made Cornwall Council.
