Date changes for recycling, rubbish, food and garden waste collection services during the Christmas period have been announced by Cornwall Council.

All household waste collections will change over Christmas and New Year, with residents being advised to check the new arrangements in their area.

With the new fortnightly waste collection and new bins, the council want to make sure everyone is prepared for waste collections over the holidays.

“Our new fortnightly collections and new bins meant, if we didn’t make these changes, some households could be waiting over two weeks for a collection,” said a Cornwall Council spokesperson.

“We want to avoid having to wait more than a couple of extra days.”

Christmas recycling, rubbish, food and garden waste collection dates in Cornwall are as follows:

Monday, December 23: Normal Collection.

Tuesday, December 24: Normal Collection.

Wednesday, December 25: Friday, December 27.

Thursday, December 26: Saturday, December 28.

Friday, December 27: Monday, December 30.

Monday, December 30: Tuesday, December 31.

Tuesday, December 31: Wednesday, January 1.

Wednesday, January 1: Thursday, January 2.

Thursday, January 2: Friday, January 3.

Friday, January 3: Saturday, January 3.

The council also want to assure residents that all other collections will take place as normal in the lead-up to the above dates.

There is also a waste calendar which is also available to download by visiting www.gov.uk/myarea or by calling 0300 1234 141.

In addition to waste collection services, Cornwall Council will also collect real Christmas trees after Christmas for residents who have subscribed to its garden waste collection service.

Households with a subscription are asked to put their tree out beside their bin or bag on their garden waste collection day.

However, for those who do not have a garden waste collection subscription, the council has suggested that real trees could go to some local charities which collect them.

“If you do not have a garden waste subscription, we will not collect your tree if it is left out,” the council spokesperson said.

“Some local charities collect trees, please help promote any schemes you’re aware of in your local community, or you can take it to a Household Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC).”
