Well, I have heeded good advice and been back to see Jane Pascoe who is a cracking Physiotherapist in Falmouth who "sorted me out" when I ran the New York Marathon in 2004 and London Marathon in 2005 with various niggles.
She looked at my left knee, moving it this way and the other and then advised me that my problem was based on the fact that I was "Genu valgum". "You mean knock-kneed Jane" I responded. She made an excellent attempt to respond with a highly professional answer but in the end we both were in hoots and the next patient was probably wondering what was going on!

In addition I have been advised not to run down hills as this will increase the pressure. Finding a flat run in Cornwall is hugely challenging I have to say particularly around this part of Cornwall! So, if anyone knows a nice flat run that is not a million miles away from Falmouth let me know!

So a week last Friday, with inner knee beautifully strapped up I did a 2 mile run and found it much better and I have been given various knee exercises to do to strengthen the various parts of the leg to improve my gait!
Work has been pretty busy so I haven't been out as much as I would have liked but now the weather has improved I have managed another three runs in the last week - twice around the Mawnan Fun Run route and once with a really good friend on Tuesday.

With the dry weather the ground is not as slippy and muddy on some of the routes around the coastal path these make for a great run especially when you are with a good friend. If you are just beginning to run then these are good to jog/walk too.

On Tuesday I ran with Sally who was one of the first people I ran with when we moved down to Cornwall seven years ago. We ran out along the road from Budock Vean and then ran the coastal path (excluding downward hills!) along via Glendurgan - really beautiful day with primroses in abundance and we were out in total for about 45 minutes but the time sped by as we were chatting as we went along and not charging around in a hugely serious fashion. Running should be fun!

Loads of runners are out and about at the moment who are clearly in serious mode training for the London and Tresco Marathons - to all of you who are I salute you and wish you all the best of luck.
