The landlord and landlady of The Rodney pub in Helston were attacked by a drunken customer one night, magistrates in Truro heard.

Before the court was cleaner Luke Mason, aged 23, of Meneage Street, Helston, who pleaded guilty to two offences of assault and one of having a lock knife in a public place.

Mike Thompson, prosecuting, said Mason had been told he was not welcome in the pub after he had been in a drunken state pestering females in the bar.

Stacey Waddell, the landlady, told him to leave and received abuse in return. With the help of her boyfriend, landlord Mathew Harrison, she pushed him out of the doors of the pub and he walked off.

But an hour later they were standing at the entrance to the pub when he returned and tried to get back in again. He was abusive and insulting when they refused access, becoming aggressive and trying to push past them inside.

During the confrontation which followed he grabbed Mr Harrison round the throat with both hands using pressure on him and then caught hold of Ms Waddell's arm saying: "I am going to f****** do you over and am going to kill you."

He pushed her so hard that she smashed her arm against the door, causing pain. As a result of the assaults Ms Waddell had a sore elbow and Mr Harrison had a swollen and sore throat.

Mr Thompson said while on bail for the assaults, during the evening of January 5, Mason had threatened people in the Fusion Bar at Camborne.

He waved a lock knife 12 inches away from one person, saying: "I am going to stab you" and then "I am going to kill you." They walked off and he put the knife away.

The court heard that Mason had previous convictions.

Elliott Moore, defending, asked for bail after the magistrates said they would send his client to Truro Crown Court for sentence, but it was refused and Mason was remanded in custody.
