A LATE strike from Terry Richardson was enough for Wendron as they stole a point from their trip to RNAS Culdrose.

The goal, in the fourth minute of injury time, completed Richardson hat-trick and a spirited fight back from the visitors.

Having not played during the Christmas and New Year period Culdrose will be kicking themselves that they did not get three points out of this relegation encounter having led at 2-0 and 3-1 for long periods of the game.

The match took a while to get going with the first real effort for Culdrose producing the breakthrough.

On 13 minutes Jamie Thompson picked up the ball and took on a few defenders before being pushed out wide. From there he crossed into the centre of the goal where Stephen Hughes rose highest to nod his team into a 1-0 lead.

However, this did not ignite the home side into any real form and the game became sloppy with defensive errors creating chances for both sides.

First Wendron hit the crossbar before Culdrose’s Thompson fired another effort in from the edge of the box which also just clipped the woodwork.

On 36 minutes having found his aim Thompson went one better. Following a trip 30 yards from goal he set the ball down from a free-kick before curling an excellent shot over the wall and into the top left hand corner.

At this point a home win looked certain but Wendron battled back and Culdrose began to sit off their opponents as they searched for a goal before half-time which they got thanks to a free-kick of their own. It was played into the box and has four Culdrose defender went to head the ball clear they got in each other’s way and the ball dropped kindly for Richardson who hammered a volley into the back of the net.

Ross Taylor then created a few chances for the home side with some excellent crosses into the box but unfortunately his attacking colleagues were not as accurate in front of goal.

The second-half began in much the same way as the first with very little created until Culdrose went 3-1 with 60 minutes gone.

A corner was played into the box and despite being headed clear twice and striking the crossbar twice Wendron were unable to clear and Eric Young scored an easy chance from less than six yards out.

Culdrose then should have sealed the match but first Hughes headed wide when unmarked, then Young dwelt in possession too long in the box to allow the ‘keeper with an easy save and then Sean Parker managed to hit the corner of the upright when the ball looked to be heading in.

So it was left for Wendron to fight back after Richardson fired in from 30 yards with 17 minutes to go and then complete his hat-trick by firing under the ‘keeper when Taylor gifted him possession.
