Puss in Boots may have gone to London to seek his fortune but the cast members of a Helston theatre group are hoping their home town will prove sufficient to bring in the bucks when they stage their version of the pantomime.

Next Wednesday marks the opening night of the latest offering from the Meneage Arts Players, who have been staging pantomimes in Helston for the last 34 years.

However, this one will be the first in the updated Epworth Hall, which now boasts raised seating and a larger stage for members to work their magic on.

The title role of Puss in Boots is being played by Gary Hunt, with Helston Community College student Sophie Wara taking on the role of principal boy Arthur.

Keith Thomas is busy fine tuning his cheesy performance as Lord Edam after taking on the role at the last minute and already saving the day in true style of all good pantomimes before the curtain even went up.

Meanwhile, Tim Gerrish is ready to be transformed into Queen Tulip, with Pamela Kelly playing Princess Daffodil.

They are being supported by a large cast of other characters and chorus members, who will be singing and dancing to music provided live by local band Elementary Penguin.

Performances will take place every evening from next Wednesday through to Saturday, starting at 7.30pm. There will also be a matinee performance on Saturday at 2.30pm.

Tickets are on sale at Heathercraft in Coinagehall Street or can be bought by calling 01326 561636.
