A video has been put on internet website You Tube in protest at plans to turn Helston Community Centre into flats.

Al Rideout has made the video, which shows various groups using the centre for activities.

It has been made in response to a planning application submitted by the centre’s owners, Helston town council.

The council has applied for planning permission that would allow the building in Penrose Road to be turned into 12 flats.

In an article in the Packet yesterday town clerk Chris Dawson said that the council hoped to sell the building, but believed that if the site had planning permission attached to it they could sell it for a better price.

The proceeds of the sale would be reinvested into an up to date community centre, he added.

However, supporters of the community centre have organised a protest against the scheme and the You Tube video is aimed at rallying support for people to join together outside the Guildhall – Helston town council’s base – on February 1 for a “Day of Action.”
