Truro MP Matthew Taylor is asking people to recycle their Christmas cards to help raise cash to restore woodland.

Mr Taylor will be recycling his Christmas cards at 10am this morning at Tesco in Truro.

The event is part of the the Woodland Trust Christmas card recycling scheme which uses the resulting recycling credits to buy and plant trees throughout the UK.

Last year 73.6 million Christmas cards were recycled through the scheme, allowing the Woodland Trust to plant 17,000 trees.

If everyone recycles just one Christmas card it will raise enough funds to plant a 15,000 trees.

Mr Taylor, MP for Truro and St Austell said: “I am happy to support this cause again. Christmas cards bring us all a lot of joy over the festive period and recycling those cards can mean a greener 2009 for everyone.”
