An exciting new project will bring the joy of music to deaf children in Cornish schools.

The project called Sing Up will see professional musicians working with deaf children and young people in Cornish schools.

It is due to launch at at Roskear School in Redruth on Monday January 19.

The project is being organised as part of the Cornwall Music Service, in partnership with the nationally acclaimed charity Music and the Deaf. Angela Renshaw, who leads the county’s Sing Up team said: “This is the first project of its kind to take place in Cornwall and we are very excited by the opportunity to work with Paul and his team.

“The programme will draw together pupils with a range of abilities, who will be taught a range of songs using signing and singing”.

The second phase of the project will take place in June when Paul and his team will be returning to work with six schools. They will also lead a workshop with the Cornwall Boys Choir and junior choir where they will be teaching songs by signing and provide training for teachers at the six schools.

The project will culminate with a grand finale performed by the children.
