A Cornish company took the beach and found themselves in for a tidy up. Staff a the Media Design House wanted to give something back and decided to clean up Porthtowan beach after noticing a build up of waste along the high-tide mark.

Based in Redruth, the team spent their lunchtime at the beach, clearing the waste away. They managed to collect eight full bin bags full of rubbish, which was then safely disposed of. Designers Leo Stockley and Simon Green often try to squeeze in a surf at Porthtowan, before or after work during the summer months, so decided to give something back. They are now planning to run the clean ups on a more regular basis.

Simon, said: “We were shocked at the state of the beach. We cleaned the area as best we could in our lunchtime to help ensure that Porthtowan was not only an attractive beach, but safe for both the visitors and wildlife”. He continued “We hope that in future trips, there will be less rubbish to clear away as people become more aware and take rubbish with them when they leave the beach.”
