Truro High School athlete, Jordanna Morrish, will compete in the high jump event of the England Indoor Athletics Championships next month after a convincing win at the regional qualifier in Cardiff last weekend.

Jordanna, who is just 13, won the girls under 15 high jump at the South West Indoor Athletics Championships. She cleared 1.57m - well over the 1.5m automatic qualifying height for the England Indoor Athletics Championships, which will be held at the NEC in Birmingham.

That height was also a personal best for Jordanna, whose previous highest jump was 1.52m, it also improves her national ranking from 3rd to 2nd. She ranks number 1 in the South West.

The day after her regional success, Jordanna won the same event at the University of Wales Open Athletics Competition, which was also held in Cardiff.

Mum, Carole Morrish, is understandably very proud of her talented daughter’s achievements.

She said: “Jordanna has taken a few months off athletics training this summer to concentrate on her horses and show-jumping. The break has obviously done her a lot of good, but she has her work cut out for her with the England championships approaching so she’s back into training now and is determined to clear 1.6m. Fortunately Truro High School is very supportive. The standard of sports at the school is extremely high and the staff are great.”

Carole explained that Jordanna, who won a sport scholarship, represents the school in a variety of sports apart from high jump including netball, hockey, cross-country and other athletics events.

Headmistress of Truro High School, Jane Abbots said: “Jordanna has an enormous amount of ability and we do everything we can to nurture her talents. We are all extremely proud of her success. She is a marvelous ambassador for the school.”
