A Mawnan Smith homeowner had a narrow escape on Saturday night when trees came down in high winds causing thousands of pounds worth of damage to his house, cars, garden and surrounding grounds.
Terry Bawden, of Glendurgan Cottages, was watching television when at least three 60 foot high trees snapped in half, sending trunks and branches across the garden, narrowly missing the house. However, the family’s two cars, brand new £2,000 patio furniture, fencing and plants were almost destroyed.
‘We were lucky,’ said Terry, pointing to where one massive tree trunk bedded into soft earth. ‘If it hadn’t, the damage would have been much worse,’ he said.
