Aquarist Katie Reed is keeping an eye on 'Lumpy', the giant lumpsucker fish, regarded as the world's LEAST graceful species of fish, and is currently residing at the Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay after getting hauled up in nets by Cornish fishermen.
The bizarre-looking creature - which get its name from specially adapted pelvic fins on their bellies which form a suction cup – is among the largest specimens experts have ever come across.
Commonly found in Northern Europe and Greenland to Maryland in the United States, lumpsuckers are also known as ‘sea hens’ and spend most of their time in deep water.
Blue Reef curator Matt Slater said: “Lumpy’s a bit of a monster and dwarfs ordinary specimens."
