ST PETER'S CHURCH: The Eucharist held on Sunday, Second Sunday of Epiphany, was celebrated by the Rev Andrew Stevenson, priest-in-charge. In his sermon he said that the Greek philosopher Plato once said that the only people who were suitable for positions of power were those who would never want the position in the first place. Epiphany gives us an opportunity to contrast the values of the kingdom of God with those of earthly empires. Jesus' kingdom and that of His Father is not a worldly one, it is established whenever and wherever people live in accordance with the will of God. Our task as followers of Jesus is to bring about the kingdom where we are, that is our calling as Christians. The lessons were read by Guy and Catharine English. Helen Syrett composed and read the intercessions and the organist was Sid Bryant.
