Mr David Ring, chief executive of the A&P Group raised £5,000 by taking part in the Great North Run in Newcastle at the end of last year.

As fundraising for the event took place in all four of the A&P Group yards around the UK, the money raised has been split four ways. A&P Falmouth nominated The Mission to Seafarers as their charity, and David Ring is seen here presenting a cheque for £1,294 to Penny Phillips, chairman of the Falmouth branch. The other charities to benefit are RNLI (nominated by A&P Shipcare), Cullercoat’s Lifeboat (nominated by A&P Tyne) and Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice (nominated by A&P Tees).

Penny said: “David Ring has been a great supporter since the Mission opened inside Falmouth Docks in 2004. His many donations have included a TV, a dishwasher, a laptop and even a second hand Mercedes car, which we sold to raise funds. As the sole seafarers’ centre in Falmouth in 2009 there are plenty of challenges ahead for The Mission to Seafarers in Falmouth, donations of this size will help us meet those challenges.”
