THE Falmouth Mixed Triples League continued on Friday afternoon with rain threatening all the game, writes Ron Medlyn.

Shock of the day was provided by Carnon’s Falcarn Rockets, skipped by Mike Blunden, Marnie Blunden number two and Christine Chatterton leading, who were against high in the league Falmouth’s Temptations, skipped by David Winnan, Bill Adams number two and Gloria Richards leading.

The shots on the third and to take an 8-1 lead. However, the Temptations recovered and were able to level the scores after nine ends to 10-10, but the Rockets then captured the next four ends to lead 18-10 after 13 ends. The Temptations were now struggling to get back in the game and after 15 ends the rockets still led 16-12 and they secured the win with a two and a one to win the match 19-13. League leaders, Falmouth’s Yellow Wellies, skipped by Ron Medlyn, Jackie Medlyn number two and John Maunder leading were to play Porthleven’s Live Wires, skipped by Phil Law, Yolande Drayson number two and Judy Minns leading.

The Live Wires made a great start and after seven ends were leading 10-1, out bowling the Yellow Wellies, who were completely out of touch and finding bowling very difficult in the swirling wind.

The Live Wires under threw the jack on the eighth end and the Yellow Wellies John Maunder set a shorter jack with the result the Wellies picked up 1-4-4-4 to take a 14-11 lead. This seemed to dishearten the Live Wires and their bowling deteriorated, whilst the Wellies piled on the points with another five followed by a four. Twenty-one shots in five ends to win the match 24-17 to stay league leaders.

The up and coming Falmouth’s Underdogs, skipped by Melville Angel, John Daly number two and Angela Angel leading, had a tremendous start against Stithians Villagers, skipped by David Pascoe, Brian Abrahams number two and Maureen Pascoe leading, to take a 14-0 lead after seven ends. The Villagers now had a mountain to climb, but the Underdogs were in no mood to let them off the hook and kept the Villagers response down to singles only. They scored six singles in the match as the Underdogs increased their lead to 22-6 win. They now overtake the Temptations in the league to drop into second place.

Helston Hellers, skipped by Terry Channon, Clifford Thomas number two and Kay Goddard leading, were to play the unpredictable Falmouth’s Smarties, skipped by Gordon Hamilton, Derek Riley number two and Tricia Goldsmith leading. After nine ends both teams were level at 7-7 then 8-8, but after this the Hellers suddenly put on the power with more accurate bowling and more consistent as they went 1-6-2 to take a 17-8 lead after 14 ends. The Hellers were now in control and ran out the game with a 1-6-1 to win the game 25-9.

Falmouth’s Oggies, skipped by Paul Williams, John Bishop number two and Margaret Brown leading, proved too strong for Mawnan’s Guys & Dolls, skipped by Trevor Wilshaw, Rose Wilshaw number two and Richard Ragg leading. The Oggies winning the match 20-6.

Stithians Wanderers and Falmouth’s Diehards match will be played at a later date as the Wanderers team were away on a winter break.

Sunday’s Men’s Triples had to be cancelled as frequent wintry showers made bowling impossible.
