HELSTON just scraped through this tough Cornwall Cup Quarter-Final tie.
The Cornwall Tribute One side were slightly fortunate to have beaten their lower-league opponents having trailed in the match for much of the second-half. The game was played in strong winds which forced both sides to attempt to run the ball with kicking being made very difficult.
The first half exchanges were dominated by the boot of Helston fly-half Kevin Mitchell who added two penalties to make the half-time score 6-0. However the second-half was a different story as Lankelly-Fowey closed the gap to 6-5 with an unconverted try.
A try later in the second half looked to have sealed a famous win for the visitors but Helston fought back and their was relief all round when Guy Pallett crossed the line following a driving maul.
However the cup drama did not end there as Lankelly Fowey, who currently sit third in the Tribute Cornwall Two table, pushed forward. However, when given a penalty in front of the posts the South east Cornwall side missed their golden opportunity and Helston gratefully hung on to victory.
