Two young Pirates, brothers Tom and Luke Cowan-Dickie, who are also both props forwards, have been fully committed this rugby season in their quest for England honours.

Eldest brother Tom, aged 17, attends Truro College, but his rugby career started a decade ago when he joined the mini section of Penzance & Newlyn RFC. During his time playing the sport he has appreciated the coaching input and support given by Pirates such as Steve Walsh, Brian Andrew, Julian Mander, Scott Dugdale, and Andrew Snell, whilst at Truro College he has been under the guidance of Robin Cowling, Will Davies, and Ricky Pellow.

Two years ago Tom played first Cornwall and then for the SW Division U16s side, and last year he played for the Cornwall U18s team.

Selected for the England U18s Conference squad this season, Tom had to withdraw because of injury, but he has recently played for the SW U18s in a Divisional Tournament held at Moseley, and is a first reserve to the full England squad.

Younger brother Luke, who is 15 years of age, has also come up through the ranks of the Pirates mini-junior section, with Nicky Brooks and Peter Lugg influential coaches along the way. A pupil at Mounts Bay School, he played in a Cornwall U16s team this season, coached by his schoolmaster Ian Veal, that featured a total of 10 young Pirates, whilst another 'Pirate' of the same age, scrum-half Chris Nicholas, played for Dorset & Wiltshire.

Luke, Chris, prop Sam Cartwright and lock Charlie Tokeley were four Pirates who then progressed to the SW trials, with Luke then selected for the SW U16s side that has also recently played in a Divisional Festival held at Moseley.

A stand out player at Moseley, Luke has since been selected in the England U16s squad that will have a development weekend before final selection is made for the teams to represent the age group for England 'A' and for the England side that will compete in the Four Nations.

All at the Pirates wish every success to Tom and Luke, who both hold an ambition to achieve success in the game and play at as high a level as possible.
