THE POLY BOOK GROUP: In the first meeting of 2009, members of the well-established Poly Book Group deviated from their usual discussion of a selected book, to talk about a wide range of books, which were important to each individual. Book Group Co-ordinator, Susan Morris Pester, said it was interesting to learn why and how each person had made their selection. The Poly Book Group, which was founded in October 2000, meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 5.30pm in the library at The Poly on Church Street, Falmouth. Each month a different book is selected for discussion at the next meeting. On Wednesday, February 4, they will be discussing The Road Home by Rose Tremain.

“We do like to cover an eclectic selection of books,” said Susan Pester “and we have all been inspired by a plaque in The Poly’s library that bears a very appropriate quote by Thomas Carlyle, the famous 19th century essayist and historian –‘The true university of these days is a collection of books’”.
