THE ASSOCIATION OF WRENS: Members met on Monday, January 19 at 2pm in the Culdrose Community Centre. The speaker, Linda Thompson, a Marie Curie Cancer Care fund-raiser was welcomed.
She gave a very clear description of the Marie Curie Nursing Service, how they work with close liaison within the NHS with GPs, district nurses and MacMillan Nurses, fulfilling a role of care of patients at the end of their lives within their own homes and family circle.
She emphasised the importance of meeting and co-operating with families, thereby providing care of the patient, but meeting the needs of the carers themselves, which may be giving a few hours respite or whole nights to allow families to rest. They provide professional support and a sense of security and peace.
During a period of questions members asked why a daffodil was the emblem? Its meaning is hope.
The next meeting will be on Monday, February 16 at 2pm in the Culdrose Community Centre.
