Long awaited improvements to the A30 between Carland and Chiverton may come a step closer after the Minister of State for Transport, Lord Adonis, agreed to meet with MP for Truro and St Austell Matthew Taylor to discuss the much needed works.

Previous Minister Tom Harris MP had agreed with Matthew Taylor MP last year to ‘protect’ the proposed dualling project designed to alleviate the bottleneck between Carland and Chiverton, after the scheme was delayed. Protection of the route means that work would be able to proceed swiftly once the Regional Assembly gave the upgrades the go ahead. In addition the Minister agreed to look at possible early improvements to the Chiverton Cross junction, which has seen increasing congestion. However, Mr. Harris was replaced by Lord Adonis in the Cabinet reshuffle at the end of 2008 and now Mr. Taylor is meeting the new Minister to keep up the pressure. Mr. Taylor said: “It is well over a year now since the previous Minister looked with me at the problems of the A30 Chiverton–Carland Cross section. It is obvious to everyone that regularly finds themselves caught in a traffic jam on the A30 here and especially Chiverton Cross that the current stretch of road is too congested and increasingly dangerous. “I am glad that the new Minster has agreed to meet with me to discuss the urgent need for the proposed works between Carland and Chiverton and equally important at Chiverton. I will take the pressure on Government up a gear – important as this road badly needs to move into the fast lane.”
